As the WHO reminds us, in Spain we could avoid 400 deaths a year on the road if rescue teams were properly trained. Vehicle manufacturers have made dizzying progress in recent years in terms of vehicle structure design, including new steels and alloys in alternative fuel vehicles and in safety systems, as well as more complex elements that, in the event of a traffic accident, complicate the evacuation of the occupants. Hence the importance of professionals involved in road accident rescue work having the most up-to-date and complete training possible. Time is vital in the rescue of a road accident, as it reduces injuries and risks to the life of the injured person and the professional himself. Likewise, rescues in road accidents are one of the functions most regularly performed daily by members of the Fire Brigade, together with fire fighting.
